Drone technology is booming and finding its way into a variety of industries, including HVAC. Drones may bring benefits regarding technician safety, cost effectiveness, and data collection. Imagine having a drone assist you on a job call, what would that look like?

Assessing hard to reach areas:

Drones can fly over areas that are not easily accessible for technicians. This could include hard-to-reach areas that would require them to climb a scaffold to inspect which is potentially dangerous. This can drastically reduce risk for HVAC technicians as they don’t have to first inspect these spaces themselves. 1

Delivering HVAC parts:

Similarly, drones could assist HVAC techs during field service. They could deliver parts among techs working on site or deliver parts throughout large areas construction sites. Drones could also fly replacement parts to a customer’s residence while the tech is working there.

Providing internet access in remote areas:

Giving people Internet Broadband service in remote areas has been challenge. Many industries like HVAC may benefit from drones providing Internet access to help troubleshoot problems. 2

Data collection:

Drones are now being used for facility maintenance. They can collect data from work sites, and then send them to the cloud. Once the data is uploaded, facility management software can evaluate and process it. This could help, for example, ensuring that maintenance requests are fulfilled. The software can send alerts to technicians if any maintenance requests need to be serviced. In the long run, drones can make this work more effective and cost efficient. 3
