Individuals who serve in the United States military, protecting and defending our country, should be honored and rewarded for their dedication and commitment. To help military personnel have a successful career after serving in the armed forces, the Department of Veteran Affairs offers military benefits for pursuing an education at a college or other institution of higher learning.
A growing field that people in the military should consider as a career path choice is becoming a heating, ventilation and air conditioning systems technician. HVAC technicians are employed worldwide, and the potential for employment and earning a high income is tremendous. There are many technical and trade schools that offer programs to get a license and certification to work as an HVAC technician.
1606 Reservist GI Bill® and Chapter 33 Post 9/11 GI Bill
The Chapter 1606 Reservist GI Bill® is a military education benefits program that offers 36 months of tuition to members of the Armed Reserves. Chapter 1606 Reservist GI Bill is available for members of the Navy, Army, Marines, Air Force and the Coast Guard reserves. Eligible military reservists can get benefits for any educational programs approved by the VA. To be eligible for Chapter 1606 Reservist GI Bill, you must have completed your initial training for active duty, signed a six year contract to serve in the Reserves, have a high school diploma or GED, and be in good standing with the Reserves.
Chapter 33 Post 9 11 GI Bill became effective on August 1, 2009. This bill is offered by the Department of Veteran Affairs to enlisted military personnel and Veterans to pursue a post military career. Active members with 90 days of service on or after September 11, 2001, and who have been honorably discharged are eligible for the Chapter 33 Post 9/11 GI Bill. Chapter 33 Post 9/11 GI Bill benefits can be used by your spouse or dependent children who are under 23 years of age to obtain an education at a College or University.
Yellow Ribbon Program
Under the Chapter 33 Post 9 11 GI Bill®, if a student’s tuition is higher than the allotted amount of the GI Bill in their state, they may be able to have the remainder of their tuition paid under the “Yellow Ribbon Program.” The “Yellow Ribbon Program” is an agreement between the school and the VA Department to cover the additional amount by contributing a 50% match toward tuition. Military personnel can receive reimbursements for licensing and certification tests and any work study programs or tutoring they may need to get their HVAC certification. The VA form 22-1990 application can be filled out online to receive these military benefits.
